Dialogue on Migration Issues
ActionAid Association India (AAA) is an organisation that works in solidarity with the most marginalized communities to achieve a greater modicum of social and ecological justice. With continuous engagement with academicians, policy makers, civil society leaders and workers’ representatives a space for debate and consultation has been created to move ahead with the discourse within the country. The way pandemic has exposed and enhanced the vulnerability of informal workers regarding the uncertainty of the informal livelihood opportunities they hold, AAA and RLS worked towards finding sustainable and collective based opportunities where these workers are owners as well. To promote sustainable and alternative economic solutions, AAA and RLS partnered together to organise a week-long urban action school in 2021 to support grassroots leaders in the endeavours to form cooperatives for sustainable economic futures of their own communities.
The global public health emergency posed by the spread of the coronavirus might well be over, the threat that climate change poses still looms large and appears to only grow moving forward. The way climate change has exposed and enhanced the vulnerability of informal and working poor regarding the uncertainty of the livelihood opportunities they hold, AAA and RLS worked towards finding sustainable and practical solutions for an urban future which is ecologically just. To promote climate just cities, AAA and RLS partnered together to organise a week-long urban action school in 2022 to support grassroots activists, young scholars and civil society practitioners in their endeavors to understand the impact of climate change and build sustainable and just futures of their own communities.
AAA proposes to organise an Urban Action School (UAS) to study and unpack the rural-urban dichotomies that exist in the Indian context. The UAS will throw light on rural-urban dynamics through discussion of structures, spatiality, mobility, and identities. The proposed UAS would be a 7-day in-person school organised in 2023 and would include academicians, policy experts, young scholars, grassroots leaders and representatives from civil society organisations.
